A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE
JUNCTION,ARIZONA,DESIGNATING A CHANGE IN A POLLING PLACE LOCATION
FOR CITY VOTERS RESIDING IN PINAL COUNTY PRECINCTS 45 AND 46;AND
AUTHORIZING THE CITY ATTORNEY TO SUBMIT THE CHANGE TO THE UNITED
STATES ATTORNEY GENERAL,DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE,FOR PRE -CLEARANCE AS
REQUIRED BY THE VOTING RIGHTS ACT OF 1965.
WHEREAS,the City of Apache Junction,Arizona,is required to provide adequate
and appropriate polling place locations for city voters;and
WHEREAS, the City has received written notification that a polling place location
previously used to accommodate city voters residing in Pinal County Precincts 45
and 46 will no longer be available for election purposes;and
WHEREAS,the City desires to provide city voters residing in Pinal County
Precincts 45 and 46 with a polling place that is easily identifiable,easily
accessible,is already in use as a polling place for state and county elections,
and meets the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of the City of
Apache Junction,Arizona,redesignation of the polling place location for city
voters residing in Pinal County Precincts 45 and 46 be changed to Four Peaks
Elementary School,1755 North Idaho Road,Apache Junction,Arizona,from
Community Christian Church,1150 West Superstition Boulevard,Apache Junction,
Arizona,effective with the next city election scheduled for March 13,2001;and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the city attorney is authorized to submit this change
to the United States Attorney General for pre -clearance in accordance with the
requirements of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
