HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 04-19RESOLUTION NO.04-19 ' A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION.ARIZONA.ADOPTING A HAZARD MITIGATI ON PLAN AS REQUIRED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IN ORDER TO SATISFY THE DISASTER MITIGATION ACT OF 2000 WHEREAS.the City of Apache Junction has historically experienced severe damage from natural and human -caused hazards such as flooding. wildfire,drought.thunderstorms/high winds,and hazardous materials incidents on many occasions in the past century.resulting in loss of property and life,economic hardship.and threats to public health and safety:and WHEREAS.pursuant to . the Disaster Hazard Mitigation Plan of 2000 codified in 44 Code of Federal Regulations Section 206.et seq..Pinal County and cities and towns within.Pinal County shall develop and implement a Disaster Mitigation Plan:and WHEREAS.the City of Apache Junction Hazard Mitigation Plan has been developed with the assistance of a consultant after more than one year of research and work in association and cooperation with the Pinal County Multi - Jurisdictional Planning Team for the reduction of hazard risk to the community:and WHERAS.the Plan specifically addresses hazard mitigation strategies and plan maintenance procedures for Apache Junction:and WHEREAS.the Plan recommends several hazard mitigation actions/projects that will provide mitigation for specific natural and human caused hazards that impact City of Apache Junction.with the effect of protecting people and property from loss associated with those hazards:and WHEREAS.a public meeting was held by.Pinal County for comment and review on the plan as required by federal law. NOW.THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor of the City of Apache Junction that: 1.The Plan is hereby adopted as an official plan of the City of Apache Junction.a copy of which shall be on file in the Office of the City Clerk and in the Office of the Director of Public Works. Resolution No.04-19 Page 1 of 2 2.The respective officials identified in the mitigation strategy of the Plan are hereby directed to pursue implementation of the recommended actions assigned to them. An annual report on the progress of the implementation elements of the Plan shall be presented to the Mayor by October 31st of each calendar year.
