WHEREAS, the City of Apache Junction (the "City") supports the expansion of the Williams Gateway Airport ("WGA"); and WHEREAS, the City recognizes that the construction of the Williams Gateway Freeway ("WGF") is an integral component of the transportation system needed to support the WGA; and WHEREAS, the City supports the WGF Corridor Study ("WGFCS") performed by the Maricopa Association of Governments; and WHEREAS, the City recognizes that the WGF will extend into Pinal County and serve as the critical transportation corridor that will support both the employment and commercial growth of the City and southeast valley; and WHEREAS, the City recognizes Alternate 3 of the proposed WGF will best serve the City; and WHEREAS, the City will also support proposed Alternate 5 because the City realizes the importance of the construction of a full interchange at Ellsworth Road; and WHEREAS, the City will support Alternates 3 or 5 because the city does not want to displace Pinal County residents which would be a foreseeable and unfortunate result if Alternate 7 were to be implemented. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of the City of Apache Junction, Arizona, as follows: The Mayor and City Council of the City of Apache Junction, Arizona, support Alternates 3, and 5 of the WGFCS. However, because Alternate 3 will not allow for the construction of the full interchange at Ellsworth Road, the Mayor and City Council recognize that Alternate 5 of the WGFCS overall is the preferred Alternate for the growth of the City, Queen Creek, and the entire southeast valley.
