A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,ESTABLISHING A SALARY
EQUIVALENT FOR PURPOSE OF COMPUTING WORKERS
COMPENSATION INSURANCE PREMIUM AND COMPENSATION
BENEFITS FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT VOLUNTEERS.
WHEREAS,pursuant to A.R.S.Section 23-901.6,volunteer
workers of any city may be deemed to be employees and entitled
to workers compensation benefits upon the passage of a
resolution or ordinance by any city wherein the nature and type
of volunteer work is described and the number of workers to be
entitled to such benefits is set forth.The basis for computing
compensation benefits and premium payments shall be Four Hundred
Dollars and No Cents ($400.00) per month divided by 100 times an
industry -wide multiplier determined by the Arizona Municipal
Risk Retention Pool; and
WHEREAS,the Police Department has recently expressed its
need to offer workers compensation coverage to unpaid volunteers
who will perform miscellaneous law enforcement support services
through its auxiliary volunteer program, as well as its victim
assistance and animal control division general support
functions.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City
Council of the City of Apache Junction as follows:
SECTION 1:
That the salary equivalent for police volunteers under A.R.S.
Section 23-901.06 for the City of Apache Junction is Four
Hundred Dollars and No Cents ($400.00)per month for the
purposes of premium payments and compensation benefits under the
workers compensation provision of the Arizona Revised Statutes.
SECTION 2:
That the number of police department volunteers eligible for
workers compensation coverage is 45 and the nature and type of
work is law enforcement support services provided through its

auxiliary and victim assistance programs and animal control
division.
