A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,GENERALLY APPROVING
DESIGNATION OF REGIONALLY SIGNIFICANT ROUTES IN PINAL
COUNTY CONTAINED IN PINAL COUNTY'S REGIONALLY
SIGNIFICANT ROUTES FOR SAFETY AND MOBILITY PLAN;
REJECTING ACCESS MANAGEMENT GUIDELINES; AND RETAINING
GENERAL AND PLANNING AUTHORITY TO REGULATE ACCESS
MANAGEMENT ON STREETS AND ROADS LOCATED WITHIN THE
CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION.
WHEREAS,many cities and towns in Pinal County are
experiencing unprecedented growth creating considerable
transportation needs for the traveling public; and
WHEREAS,Pinal County has consulted with Lima & Associates
to create the Regionally Significant Routes For Safety and
Mobility Plan ("RSRM Plan"), published on July 30, 2007; and
WHEREAS,the RSRM Plan identifies three categories of
Regionally Significant Routes ("RSRs")within Pinal County and
prescribes access management guidelines for mobility along such
routes; and
WHEREAS,the RSRM Plan specifically recommends spacing and
access guidelines for public access along such RSRs; and
WHEREAS, the City of Apache Junction desires to retain its
general and planning authority to exercise control over its
corporate limits'streets and roads pursuant to A.R.S.§§9-
276(A)(1), 9-461.05(C)(2) and 9-461.05 (D)(3)(a).
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1.The City of Apache Junction hereby:1)generally
approves of the RSRM Plan;2)rejects the RSRM Plan's Access
Management Guidelines;3)retains its general municipal and
planning authority to exercise control over its streets and
roads;and 4)proscribes access management standards and
guidelines in accordance with City Engineering Standards and
Policies.
