A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,IN SUPPORT OF PROPOSED
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS TO LOST DUTCHMAN STATE PARK.
WHEREAS,Arizona State Parks Board will be considering
proposed capital improvements to Lost Dutchman State Park at
their meeting of February 17, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., in the Peoria
City Council Chambers; and
WHEREAS, funding for the improvements are from Federal Land
and Water Conservation Funds matched by Heritage Funds in the
amount of $1.2 million dollars; and
WHEREAS,proposed improvements include providing the
availability of electricity to camp sites,enhancing restroom
and shower facilities,and expanding parking in the areas of
trail heads; and
WHEREAS,planned improvements to Lost Dutchman State Park
will increase its usability which in turn increases revenue.
Improvements would better position the park to remain open as a
self sustained operation or possibly a revenue generating
facility; and
WHEREAS, Lost Dutchman State Park has 100,000 visitors per
year and has an estimated $4.1 million dollar economic impact on
the community; and
WHEREAS,Arizona State Parks and the City of Apache
Junction are in the process of developing a Memorandum of
Understanding furthek.outlining areas of mutual interest and
cooperation with regard to the parks continued operation; and
WHEREAS,the City of Apache Junction has initiated
discussion with the Arizona State Parks Foundation to explore
the formation of a "Friends of Lost Dutchman State Park" group.

NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION ARIZONA, AS FOLLOWS:
The Mayor and City Council support proposed capital improvements
to Lost Dutchman State Park for the reasons set forth in this
Resolution.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION, ARIZONA, THIS 16TH DAY OF FEBRUARY, 2010, and
SIGNED AND ATTESTED TO THIS 16TH DAY OF FEBRUARY 2010.
