HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 17-26RESOLUTION NO. 17-26 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION, APPROVING AND ADOPTING THE UPDATED PINAL COUNTY MULTI -JURISDICTIONAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN 2016. WHEREAS,the City of Apache Junction has experienced damage from natural hazards such as flooding, wildfire,drought,severe winds and others on many occasions in the past century, resulting in loss of property and/or life, economic hardship, and threats to public health and safety; and WHEREAS,the Pinal County Multi -Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan 2016 (the "Plan")has been developed after more than one year of review,research and update work by the Pinal County Multi -Jurisdictional Planning Team,in association and cooperation with the City of Apache Junction,for reduction of hazard risk to the community; and WHEREAS,the Plan specifically addresses natural hazard vulnerabilities,mitigation strategies,and Plan maintenance procedures for the City of Apache Junction; and WHEREAS,the Plan recommends several hazard mitigation actions/projects that will mitigate specific natural hazards that impact the city, in an effort to protect individuals and property from loss associated with those hazards; and WHEREAS,an adopted Hazard Mitigation Plan is required as a condition of future funding for mitigation projects under multiple Federal Emergency Management Agency ("FEMA")pre-and post- disaster mitigation grant programs pursuant to the 1988 Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act (the "Stafford Act")(Public Law 100-707) as amended by the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000; the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, (42 U.S.C. §4104c), as amended. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION AS FOLLOWS: RESOLUTION NO. 17-26 PAGE 1 OF 2 1)The updated Pinal County Multi -Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan 2016,a copy of which is on file with the Public Works Department, is hereby approved and adopted. 2)The City of Apache Junction acknowledges that all previous Pinal County Multi -Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plans are hereby superseded and replaced.
