HomeMy WebLinkAbout1981-03-30 City Council Special MinutesCITY COUNCIL MINUTES SPECIAL MEETING March 30,1981 A special meeting of the City Council of the City of Apache Junction,Arizona,was held on March 30,1981,at the Apache Junction Council Chamberspursuanttonoticerequiredbylaw. CALL TO ORDER Mayor Seeman called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. INVOCATION Councilman Eidson led the invocation. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The Council and public participated in the Pledge of Allegiance. ROLL CALL Councilmembers Present:Councilman Norman Hill,Councilman Jimmy Eidson,Councilman Thomas Damiano, Vice Mayor John Granillo,Mayor Virginia Seeman, and Councilman Marie Shanks (joined the meeting at 6:05 p.m.) Councilmembers Absent: Councilman Jerry Burgess Staff Present: ACCEPTANCE OF THE AGENDA City Manager G.Ray Lee City Clerk/Director of Administrative ServicesMarlisJ.Davis Assistant City Attorney Susan Goodwin. THAT THE AGENDA BE ACCEPTED AS PRESENTED. the motion. VOTE:Unanimous The motion carried. )Vice Mayor Granillo MOVED Councilman Damiano seconded CANVASSING OF VOTES,PRIMARY ELECTION MARCH 24,1981 ) The City Clerk presented to unofficial returns,from both 22A and 22B,along with the official returns which were sealed at the time the election closed.She opened the officialreturnsandpresentedthem to the Council so they could ascertain that nothing had been altered. Mayor Seeman stated the procedure was to merely accept the canvass of the votes and i f there were any other procedures that anyone wishes to produce,the procedures should be put through the Superior Court system. Vice Mayor Granillo MOVED THAT THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION BE ACCEPTED: RESOLUTION No. 81-03 WHEREAS the Primary Election for the City Councilmembers for Apache Junction was. held on March 24, 1981; and WHEREAS a Special Meeting of the City Council was held on March 30, 1981, pursuant to law, for the purpose of canvassing the returns of said election; and WHEREAS the City Council did canvass the election returns at said Special meeting and did determine the official results of the election, NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved: That the City Council declares the official returns of the Primary Election for City Councilmembers of the City of Apache Junction as follows: 1.The number of ballots cast in Precinct 22A:1379 The number of ballots cast in Precinct 22B:1481 2.The number of ballots rejected in Precinct 22A:4 The number of ballots rejected in Precinct 22B: 16(7 question ballots 9 spoiled ballots) 3.The number of votes cast for each candidate is: Precinct 22A Precinct 22B Total Berry 203 169 372 Clarke 503 547 1050 Damiano 432 548 980 Drysdale 153 136 289 Dugger 530 438 968 Eidson 386 495 881 Folsom 418 402 820 Hill 426 520 946 Hudson 392 610 1002 LaPorte 526 417 943 Lewis 203 269 472 Lykins 129 161 290 McClain 59 58 117 Michaels 149 177 326 Otherson 374 376 750 Ratigan 61 75 136 Saggio 595 504 1099 Schlunder 517 397 914 Seeman 380 425 805 Shanks 550 536 1086 Steelsmith 416 393 809 Further resolved that the City Clerk be and she is hereby directed to issue the certificates of nomination as provided by law, notifying those persons that their names will appear on the ballot for the General Election to be held May 19, 1981. Councilman Hill seconded the motion. VOTE:Unanimous The motion carried. ANNOUNCEMENTS Mayor Seeman announced the Boards of Supervisors met jointly in Superior Court and unanimously voted against the disincorporation issue. IT WAS STATED FOR THE RECORD THAT ALTHOUGH COUNCILMAN SHANKS WAS NOT IN ATTENDANCE AT THE MEETING FOR A VOTE ON THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE AGENDA,SHE WAS PRESENT DURING THE MOTION AND VOTE ON ACCEPTANCE OF THE CANVASSING OF THE VOTE. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business,Mayor Seeman adjourned the meeting at 6:30 p.m. APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL THIS 15th DAY OF April , 1981.
