HomeMy WebLinkAbout1981-09-04 City Council Special MinutesCITY COUNCIL MINUTES SPECIAL MEETING SEPTEMBER 4, 1981 The special meeting of the City Council of the City of ApacheJunction,Arizona,was held on September 4,1981,at the Apache Junction Council Chambers pursuant to the notice required by law. CALL TO ORDER Mayor Clarke called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. ROLL CALL Councilmen Present: Staff Present: Councilman Steelsmith,Councilman Shanks,Councilman Damiano, Councilman Eidson,Councilman Hudson,Vice Mayor Hill,Mayor Clarke Director of Administrative Services/ City Clerk,Marlis J. DavisDirectorofPublicSafety,Bill McDanielDirectorofPlanning,Joe GeroDirectorofPublicWorks, Rich Broman PERSONNEL MATTER )Councilman Eidson MOVED THAT BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION, ARIZONA,THAT MR.G.RAY LEE, CITY MANAGER BE HEREBY TERMINATED, EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 5, 1981. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT HE BE SUSPENDED FOR T"IrTY DAYS PRIOR TO OCTOBER 5, 1981.ALL IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROVISIOPS -)r.CHAPTER THREE IN THE CODE OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION. Vice Mayor Hill seconded the motion. Councilman Damiano stated;"Whoever heard of a City Manager that anyone ever fell in love with?When Mr.Ray Lee arrived in Apache Junction,the community image was that of mobile home parks and entertained by kazoo bands,which was good enough to get us on national TV.Mr.Lee has elevated our City to a much higher level by establishing almost everything that you see about you tonight.He ispersonallyresponsibleforsecuringthisland,these buildings in thecurrentform and the placement of almost every single thing you see; thetrees,the grass,the flora,the pictures,the dias,the seats in which you sit,and the City services which you receive.While Mr.Lee was engaged in all these extravagant events,he managed to earn thousands of dollars on idle funds.At the same time managed to provide our City with a balanced budget for the next five years.Also to include,there has never been any deficit spending in our City.I f I were looking for an easy job, me personally,I'd apply for this position as my predecessor has done most of the work.To my fellow Councilmembers,I would like to say that VOTE:In Favor:Councilman Hudson, Councilman Eidson,Councilman Steelsmith, Vice Mayor Hill,Mayor Clarke Opposed:Councilman Damiano,Councilman Shanks The motion carried.
