A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE
JUNCTION, ARIZONA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE REQUEST TO THE CENTRAL
ARIZONA PROJECT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF PINAL COUNTY, ARIZONA,
THAT A BRIDGE BE CONSTRUCTED AT THE CROSSING OF THE SALT-GILA
AQUEDUCT (CENTRAL ARIZONA PROJECT) AND BASELINE ROAD.
WHEREAS, the Salt -Gila Aqueduct of the Central Arizona Pro-
ject will be constructed on a northwest to southeastern line within
Pinal County; and
WHEREAS, said aqueduct will be located so as to adversely
impact and aggravate the transportation, communication, development
and planning of the City of Apache Junction which is the fastest
growing city in Pinal County, in Arizona and in the western United
States and it will be located immediately south of the City of Apache
Junction, and within the city's zone of health, safety and planning
responsibility; and
WHEREAS, the Arizona Department of Transporation plans to
construct only two (2) necessary bridges to accommodate north -south
traffic on Meridian and Ironwood Roads, where they will cross said
aqueduct; and
WHEREAS, the future construction plans of the Superstition
Freeway (and east -west highway) only include interchanges at Signal
Butte Road and Ironwood Road in the subject vicinity; and
WHEREAS, without an additional east -west bridge on this
major arterial highway, traffic and communications will be disrupted
and will be required to flow in an unorganized' manner into the City
of Apache Junction and will cause hazardous conditions to be created
to the peril of the citizens and the children of at least two (2)
schools and will frustrate proper urban planning;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that complete and urgent
support for the construction of an additional bridge to cross the Salt-
Gila Aqueduct project be and the same is here_by expressed; and
FURTHER RESOLVED committing the City of Apache Junction's
wholehearted support of the request by the Board of Supervisors of
Pinal County that an additional bridge be located on Baseline Road at
the crossing with the Salt -Gila Aqueduct, Pinal County, Arizona; and

FURTHER, that the City Clerk be and she is hereby authorized
and directed to send certified copies of this resolution to the
Governor of the State, the State Energy Department, the United States
Water and Power Resources Service Central Arizona Project Division,
the Congressional Delegation, the Department of Transportation, the
Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Pinal County Board
of Supervisors and other appropriate officials.
