SPECIAL MEETING
JULY 7,1986
The special meeting of the City Council of the City of Apache Junction,
Arizona,was held on July 7,1986,at the Apache Junction City Council
Chambers pursuant to the notice required by law.
CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Hill called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Councilmen Present:Councilman Jimenez,Councilman
Eidson,Councilwoman Gardner,
Councilwoman Taylor,Vice Mayor
Bakkedahl,Mayor Hill
Councilman Absent:Councilman Baljo

EXECUTIVE SESSION,JULY 7,1986
)Councilwoman Gardner MOVED THAT THERE
BE AN EXECUTIVE SESSION AT 6:34 P.M.,ON JULY 7,1986,IN THE CITY COUNCIL
CONFERENCE ROOM.
Councilman Jimenez seconded the motion.
VOTE:Unanimous
The motion carried.
The City Council recessed the special meeting into an Executive Session.
Mayor Hill reconvened the meeting at 6:53 p.m.
TERMINATION OF CITY MANAGER'S CONTRACT
EFFECTIVE AUGUST 8,1986
)Councilwoman Gardner MOVED THAT
ITEM NO.4,5,6,7 AND 8,AS THE MOTIONS PROPOSED FOR THIS SPECIAL MEETING,
BE APPROVED:
ITEM NO.4
THAT MICHAEL J.MCNULTY'S CONTRACT AS CITY MANAGER FOR THE CITY OF APACHE
JUNCTION,ARIZONA,BE TERMINATED AS OF AUGUST 8,1986,AND THAT MICHAEL J.
MCNULTY BE REMOVED FROM HIS POSITION AS CITY MANAGER AS OF THAT DATE.

I FURTHER MOVE THAT THE CITY COUNCIL RATIFY ITS ACTION OF JULY 1,1986,
WHEREIN THE COUNCIL EXPRESSED ITS INTENT TO NOTIFY THE CITY MANAGER OF ITS
INTENT TO TERMINATE HIS CONTRACT.
ITEM NO.6
I FURTHER MOVE THAT THE CITY COUNCIL RATIFY THE ACTION OF THE MAYOR OF THE
CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA,WHEREBY HE SIGNED AND DELIVERED TO THE
CITY MANAGER A LETTER DATED JULY 3,1986,NOTIFYING THE CITY MANAGER OF THE
COUNCIL'S INTENT TO TERMINATE THE CITY MANAGER'S CONTRACT EFFECTIVE AUGUST 8,
1986,AND TO REMOVE THE CITY MANAGER FROM HIS OFFICE AS OF THAT DATE.

I FURTHER MOVE THAT THE CITY CLERK BE GIVEN DIRECTION TO CONTACT RALPH ANDERSON
AND ASSOCIATES REQUESTING THAT A REPRESENTATIVE BE PRESENT FOR THE JULY 14,1986
COUNCIL WORK SESSION FOR THE PURPOSES OF CONSULTING AND ADVERTISING FOR THE
EMPLOYMENT OF A NEW CITY MANAGER.

I FURTHER MOVE THAT THE CITY CLERK BE APPOINTED AS ACTING CITY MANAGER AS OF
AUGUST 8,1986,UNTIL FURTHER ACTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
Vice Mayor Bakkedahl seconded the motion.
Councilwoman Taylor asked why the previous
actions needed to be ratified.
City Attorney David Alexander explained that
the City Code does not provide for whom is to deliver the letter to the City
Manager,and as the Mayor did deliver the letter,the ratification is to show
that i t was the wish of a majority of the Council.
Councilmembers discussed requesting Ralph &
Associates to be consultants for the employment of a new City Manager.
City Clerk Kathleen Connelly stated that this
firm is highly recommended,and that the City is not required to solicit bids
for professional services.

Mayor Hill,Councilwoman Taylor (Items 7 &8 only)
Councilman Eidson,Councilwoman Taylor (Items 4,5,&6 only)
The motion carried.
ADJOURNMENT
)Councilman Jimenez MOVED THAT THE MEETING
BE ADJOURNED AT 7:15 P.M.
Councilwoman Gardner seconded the motion.
VOTE:Unanimous
The motion carried.

COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF APACHE JUNCTION,ARIZONA.
