REGULAR MEETING
July 19, 2016
The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of
Apache Junction, Arizona, was held on July 19, 2016, at the
Apache Junction City Council Chambers pursuant to the notice
required by law.
CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Insalaco called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
INVOCATION
Councilmember Wilson gave the Invocation.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Vice Mayor Barker led the Pledge of Allegiance.

ACCEPTANCE OF CONSENT AGENDA
)Vice Mayor Barker MOVED
THAT THE CONSENT AGENDA BE ACCEPTED AS PRESENTED; AND
THAT APPROVAL BE GIVEN FOR THE INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT
BETWEEN THE MARICOPA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND THE CITY OF
APACHE JUNCTION AUTHORIZING THE APACHE JUNCTION POLICE
DEPARTMENT TO PARTICPATE IN AND SUBMIT FINGERPRINTS THROUGH THE
ARIZONA AUTOMATED IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM FULL ACCESS SYSTEM
TERMINAL, MAINTAINED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY; AND
THAT AUTHORIZATION BE GIVEN TO THE MAYOR TO SIGN THE AGREEMENT;
AND
THAT RECEIPT OF THE LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT FOR
FISCAL YEAR 2015-2016 BE ACKNOWLEDGED.

VOTE:Unanimous.
The motion carried.
AWARDS, PRESENTATIONS AND PROCLAMATIONS
Mayor Insalaco read a proclamation designating August 2016 as
Drowning Impact Awareness Month and presented it to Tina Gerola
of the Superstition Fire and Medical District.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF CURRENT EVENTS
Councilmember Wilson commented on an attack by killer bees last
week on one of his horses after being sprayed by fly spray that
attracted the bees, resulting in his being stung and the horse
receiving enough stings to require being euthanized.
Vice Mayor Barker announced she and the mayor went to a meeting
of the Gateway Authority Board where they announced a new dining
restaurant will be opening and the Gateway Airport is now the
43rd busiest airport in the nation, right behind Oakland
International.Passenger numbers are up 15% in May and June and
the mayor was elected secretary of the authority.

Councilmember Serdy commented on the Water for Life event where
WalMart gave 1,600 cases of water.
Mayor Insalaco announced the wife of former Vice Mayor Rick
Dietz has passed away and commented on the funeral services.
CITY MANAGER'S REPORT
City Manager Bryant Powell thanked the fire district for being
here tonight, commented on Janine Solley being named the
Economic Development Director, read a letter from a resident on
the Fourth of July Celebration, thanked the sponsors of the
Fourth of July Celebration, read a memo from the police chief to
his staff regarding the recent happenings nationally and read
emails and Facebook comments supporting the police department.
Mr. Larry Johnson, President and Chief Executive Officer of the
Apache Junction Chamber of Commerce, gave a brief presentation
on the performance of the Visitor Information Center for Fiscal
Year 2015-2016.

CALL TO THE PUBLIC
Mr. George Schroeder, 2444 W. Virginia, Apache Junction,
addressed the council regarding his belief that crime is going
up, police not allowing him to write a complaint on a neighbor
threatening him and a formal indictment he allegedly has against
the city.
Mr. Elliott Fisher, 547 E. Quail, Apache Junction, addressed the
council regarding newspaper coverage on the election, his
previous experiences in court, his perceived inability to get
information from the city clerk's office and his wish for better
service from the city.

the meeting at 7:38 p.m.
